Inspired by the cheeky sayings embroidered onto WWII novelty lingerie sets. These silk underpinnings can be traced back to the 1940s when U.S soldiers stationed in Japan sought a playful way to remind their wives of their love and that they would one day be coming home.The sets went hand and hand with the traditional Japanese Sukajan bomber jackets that the soldiers would often bring home as a souvenir of their service in Japan.They are most commonly seen adorned with playful sayings such as “Sweet and sour”stitched across the chest and “off limits”, “keep your pants on honey until I come home” or “gone with the wind” a nod to the 1939 Hollywood classic.
